Slovakia - Presov

It is some testament to a small population in a country when only 100,000 residents makes that country’s third-largest city. But that is Presov, a seat of regional government in north-eastern Slovakia.

There is a regional atmosphere to the small town that reflects the surrounding villages throughout the local (Saris) region. However unlikely it seems today in all its peacefulness, this ex-mining town has been a region of rebellion against the system, be the system Roman Catholic or imperial. Maybe all that that remains of that rebel like spirit can be found in the beer “Saris” which is the second most famous beer in the country.

The town centre still represents 15th to 17th century architecture and one church, at its centre dates from the 13th century. There is long Jewish history to the town and evidence of this can be found in the museum.
