Slovakia - Trencin

Trencin near the North-Western border with the Czech Republic, is one of the country’s most picturesque towns. It has a castle on a rocky outcrop that towers above the town centre which is is regarded as one of Slovakia’s most significant and is certainly very impressive when admired from various angles below. You can climb the winding streets to its gates and gaze over the the surrounding regions (the valley of the river Vah). This is a stroll that may take many hours but there is not much hurry going on in Trencin and I am sure that you will not be crowded out by other tourists.

Pohoda – is the Slovak word that means something like „no worries“.. it suits the town quite well and so it is kind of apt that the Pohoda music festival is held in Trencin every year. This is the biggest music festival in Slovakia and it attracts international rock and alternative artists each year. Tickets cost about 30 Euros for the weekend, so it has to be the best value festival in Europe.

The old town centre also has a charming square and side streets, most famously featuring the gate and 15th century clock tower.
